Florilegium first performed in London’s Wigmore Hall in
1992, the year after the group was founded, and have always been
proud to present several concerts there every year.
Between 1998-2000, Florilegium enjoyed two seasons as Ensemble-in-Residence at Wigmore Hall, and have continued that close association with the hall by giving three or four performances there each season.
During 2009 Florilegium gave three all-Haydn concerts, as part
of the Wigmore Hall’s Bicentenary series, as well as celebrating
the anniversaries of Handel and Purcell in a New Year’s Eve
concert with Dame Emma Kirkby.
2011 marks the group’s 20th anniversary; the first concert
in the anniversary season was on Thursday 31 March.
Florilegium was joined by the soprano Elin Manahan Thomas in works
by Vivaldi. Jane Gower (bassoon) and Ashley Solomon were the soloists
in Telemann’s Concerto in F for recorder and bassoon in this
concert of works by these two composers.
The main 20th anniversary concerts were on Saturday 2nd
and Sunday 3rd July 2011. These two evening
concerts comprised the complete Bach Brandenburg Concertos and Orchestral
Suites, with other items being performed by guest artists, including
Dame Emma Kirkby. The four original members of the group all performed
in both concerts; Ashley Solomon (flute/recorder), Neal Peres Da
Costa (harpsichord), Daniel Yeadon (cello/viola da gamba) and Rachel
Podger, who was the guest Director for the weekend.
